Charlie Lee, the creator of Litecoin wrote a tweet yesterday announcing the development to his followers where he said that he was

“Excited to announce that the Litecoin logo will be on the canvas as the Official Cryptocurrency Partner of @UFC 232 on 12/29 in Inglewood CA!”

Speaking to the Foundation’s rationale on sponsoring such an event, John Eidson, who is the director of marketing & communications said that the Foundation is looking forward to collaborating and partnering up with “great companies and brands.” The announcement, which was authored by Eidson, gives some reasons why Litecoin ventured into the UFC arena.

First of all, the Foundation sees parallels between the cryptocurrency community and the UFC community. According to Eidson, they are both “community-driven” entities. And for the past 25 years, UFC has cultivated an extremely passionate community, soothing that Litecoin Foundation aims to replicate for its community.

This event also represents a milestone for crypto with Litecoin becoming the first of its kind to sponsor a UFC match. UFC being a global event that attracts millions of viewers across the world, Litecoin hopes to gain exposure and hopefully put crypto on the world map.

Living up to his promises this year, Charlie has embarked on a journey to take crypto mainstream and increase its adoption. This event may have come a little sooner than his vision which he promises to execute come 2019, is the start. Lee has also confirmed his involvement with the HTC Exodus project, a crypto-centric device that was launched this year by HTC and which supports Litecoin. Through these and several more projects, Lee has planned to roll out in 2019, he hopes to bolster the image of cryptocurrencies and possibly increase its adoption.
